Overview
Setting up a custom domain for your shared videos allows you to brand your content and provide a more professional experience for your viewers. Instead of sharing links with the default "cap.so" domain, you can use your own subdomain (e.g., "caps.yourdomain.com"). This feature is available on the Pro plan.
Prerequisites
A Cap Pro plan subscription.
Access to your domain's DNS settings (usually provided by your domain registrar, like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Cloudflare).
Steps to set up your custom domain
Navigate to your Organization Settings in the Cap dashboard.
In the "Custom Domain" section, click the "Setup" button.
Enter the subdomain you want to use (e.g., "cap.yourdomain.com") and click "Next".
Cap will provide you with DNS records (usually an A record or a TXT record). Carefully copy these values.
Log in to your domain registrar and add the DNS records to your domain's settings.
Return to the Cap dashboard and click the "Check Status" button.
It can take some time for DNS changes to propagate across the internet (sometimes up to 48 hours, but usually much faster). If the verification doesn't work immediately, please wait a few minutes and try again.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
If you're having trouble verifying your domain, here are some common issues and solutions:
"Domain not verified" error: Double-check that the DNS records in your domain registrar exactly match the values provided by Cap. A small typo can cause verification to fail.
"Check Status" button seems unresponsive: The "Check Status" button manually polls for DNS updates. It doesn't provide real-time feedback. If you've just added the DNS records, it might take some time for them to be picked up. Please be patient and try again in a few minutes.
Issues with a domain already on Vercel: If your domain is already hosted on Vercel, you may encounter conflicts. Please contact our support team for assistance in this case.
In some rare cases, the DNS values shown in the dashboard may be incorrect. If you have double-checked your DNS records and are still unable to verify your domain after a significant waiting period, please contact our support team for help.
