Overview

This article explains where to find your saved recordings in both Instant Mode and Studio Mode.

Prerequisites

You have completed a recording in either Instant or Studio Mode.

Finding Your Recordings

Instant Mode

Instant Mode recordings are designed for quick sharing and are automatically uploaded to your web dashboard.

  1. Open the Cap app.

  2. Your most recent recordings will appear in the "Previous Recordings" list.

  3. To view all your Instant Mode recordings, navigate to your web dashboard.

Instant Mode recordings are cloud-based and cannot be edited in the desktop app.

Studio Mode

Studio Mode recordings are saved locally on your computer as a .cap project file, which contains multiple files like your screen and camera recordings. This allows for editing before you export them as a single video file.

  1. Open the Cap app.

  2. Navigate to Settings > Previous Recordings.

  3. Here you will find a list of all your Studio Mode recordings.

  4. Click the folder icon to open the location of the .cap file.

Accessing the Raw Files

If you need to access the individual video and audio files within your recording, follow these steps:

On Windows:

  1. Click the folder icon next to your recording.

  2. In the folder that opens, click into the .cap file to see the contents.

On macOS:

  1. Click the folder icon next to your recording.

  2. In the folder that opens, right-click the .cap file.

  3. Select "Show Package Contents" to see the individual files (e.g., camera.mp4, display.mp4, and the audio file).

Studio Mode is ideal for when you want to make edits or have a local copy of your recording before sharing.

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to find your recording in the locations described above, please ensure that the recording was completed successfully and not interrupted. If you continue to have issues, please contact our support team.
