Troubleshooting the Main Recording Window
This article will help you troubleshoot issues with the main recording window not appearing after a recent update.
Why is this happening?
It's possible that after a recent update on Windows that the main recording window will close by default when you start a screen recording. Once you finish your recording, the editor window will open automatically.
Heads up: We are aware that this new behavior can be confusing. We are working on a better way to communicate this change to our users.
How to get the main window back
If you prefer the old behavior, you can revert to it in the settings:
Open the application settings.
Under the "General" tab, you will find a setting labeled "Studio recordings will now automatically open in the Editor, and the main window will now close when recording starts".
Disable this option to prevent the main window from closing automatically.
What to do if the window is still not showing
If you have disabled the new behavior and the main window is still not showing, here are a few other things you can try:
Check the system tray (Windows)
It is possible that the application is still running in the background. You can check the system tray to see if the app is still open.
Click the arrow in the bottom right of the taskbar to show hidden icons.
Look for the app icon and right-click on it.
Click on "Settings" or "New Recording" to reopen the main window.
Check for off-screen windows
If you have an external monitor, it is possible that the window has opened off-screen. You can fix this from the system tray as well:
Right-click the app icon in the system tray.
Click on "Settings" or "New Recording". This should bring the window back into view.
Still not working? If you have tried all of the above and the window is still not showing, you can try restarting your computer or reinstalling the application.
